4. Swabian Alb
The year before last, we had the pleasure of exploring different corners within the Swabian Alb. Here in Marco's homeland, we were on different hiking trails and were able to get to know the many facets of the region. You can expect almost untouched nature with gentle hills, deep valleys, crystal-clear rivers, imposing rock formations and charming towns.
Mass tourism is a foreign word in this region, which is why you can enjoy nature to the fullest here undisturbed. So if you still have 3 to 4 days in the coming year and come from the area, we can only recommend the Swabian Alb.

5. Lake Constance
Lake Constance, nestled in the border triangle of Germany, Austria and Switzerland, attracts visitors with a unique mixture of nature and culture. Here, majestic mountain landscapes, crystal clear water and charming riverside towns combine to create a fascinating overall experience.
Whether you're strolling along the shore, biking along the scenic bike paths, or taking a boat ride across the lake, the options are as varied as the sights this region has to offer. 6. Holidays in the Allgäu
The region impresses with its breathtaking natural landscape with majestic mountains, green meadows, clear lakes and idyllic valleys. In both summer and winter, the Allgäu offers a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, skiing, cycling and water sports. The Allgäu is also particularly family-friendly.
With plenty of kid-friendly activities, hands-on farms, adventure playgrounds, and kid-friendly hiking trails, the region also attracts many families. In the Allgäu, highlights await you, such as the unique Neuschwanstein Castle, the adventurous Highline 179, the picturesque Breitachklamm or the beautiful Hinanger waterfall.

7. Lüneburg Heath
A holiday in the Lüneburg Heath promises a tempting mixture of natural idyll, cultural heritage and relaxed atmosphere. The region is famous for its stunning heather bloom in late summer. When the landscape is immersed in a sea of purple colours, it is a sight that not only inspires photographers, but also forms a romantic backdrop for walks and bike rides.
The region is also peppered with charming villages where half-timbered houses and idyllic squares dominate the picture. The historic cities of Lüneburg and Celle enchant with their well-preserved old towns, medieval buildings and cosy cafés. Hopefully it will finally work out with a visit to this region in the new year.

Our top travel destinations for 2026 – Europe
Europe is made up of 47 countries and therefore offers an almost endless choice of unique destinations. Each country in Europe holds its own unique highlights, be it the ancient ruins of Greece, the romantic canals of Venice, the royal castles of France or the vibrant metropolises such as London, Paris and Barcelona. For the coming year 2026, we have noted some exciting travel destinations for you. Have fun browsing!
1. Sardinia
For us, Sardinia is definitely one of the most beautiful islands in Europe. Fantastic sandy beaches, turquoise bays and a Mediterranean flair - welcome to Sardinia! This small island is the perfect destination for all sun worshippers and beach lovers. Not only picturesque coastal landscapes and fantastically beautiful beaches await you, but also a unique mix of culture, history and culinary highlights.
Sardinia is great for a road trip. We recommend 14 days if you want to explore the most beautiful corners of the island of Sardinia without time stress. Sardinia is ideal for a varied holiday. We recommend at least 7 days for this. No matter what you choose, you can't go wrong with a trip to Sardinia. Promised!

2. Iceland
Iceland should also not be missing from your list for 2026, because this island is always a good idea. We were in Iceland for the first two weeks in September and drove around the island in a rental car. Thundering waterfalls, mighty glaciers, rugged cliffs, black beaches, geothermal areas and geysers, impressive volcanoes and countless breathtaking landscapes awaited us.
We camped on site and got to know Iceland in a more adventurous way. Camping in Iceland is generally possible without any problems, but you have to consider a few special features. Depending on the time of travel, the topic of driving in Iceland should not be underestimated, because roads can be closed, especially in winter.
Iceland has completely knocked our socks off and we will definitely return one day. If you are planning a trip to Iceland, we recommend at least 7 to 10 days for the south and southeast and at least 14 days for a circumnavigation of the island. You can travel to Iceland all year round, because each season has its own special charm.

3. Austria
If you don't necessarily want to get on a plane or take a long-distance trip, we can also recommend a trip to Austria for 2026. We are in the mountains at least 1 to 2 times a year to go hiking and enjoy nature to the fullest. Austria offers countless beautiful corners with spectacular landscapes. But the cities of Vienna, Innsbruck or Salzburg are also impressive.
The Montafon, an almost 39-kilometre-long alpine valley that stretches from Bludenz to the Bielerhöhe, is highly recommended. The breathtaking nature of this region is truly unique. But the Hohe Tauern National Park in East Tyrol also convinced us with its majestic mountain peaks, glittering glaciers, thundering waterfalls and crystal-clear lakes.

4. Halkidiki
In the early summer of 2023, we traveled to Greece to take a closer look at the Halkidiki region. While most holidaymakers tend to travel to a Greek island, we wanted to see what the region around Thessaloniki has to offer on the mainland. The region is known for its natural beauty, historical sites, and picturesque beaches. We were able to convince ourselves of this on site.
Halkidiki looks like a hand with three fingers on the map, also known as "three fingers". These fingers are the three main peninsulas of Kassandra, Sithonia and Athos. Each of the three peninsulas has its own unique landscape. Kassandra is known for its lively beaches and nightlife, Sithonia for its green forests and secluded bays. Athos is known as an autonomous monastic republic and is rich in Orthodox monasteries.

5. Finland (Lapland)
We were in Finland for the first time last winter, more precisely in the northern region of Lapland. Lapland offers one of the best chances to observe the fascinating Northern Lights. Lapland is also a paradise for winter sports fans. From traditional activities like skiing and snowboarding to dog sledding, reindeer sleigh rides, snowmobile tours, and ice fishing, there are plenty of ways to enjoy winter to the fullest.
And did you know that Santa Claus has his official residence in Santa Claus Village near Rovaniemi in Lapland? The region is also home to some of the most fascinating ice and snow hotels in the world. Look forward to the untouched nature of Lapland, the silence and seclusion as well as the many unique moments in Winter Wonderland.

6. Slovakia
Slovakia is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating countries in Europe. Nestled between Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland and Austria, it may seem as if Slovakia is overshadowed by its neighbours. But in fact, this country doesn't have to hide at all – Slovakia rocks! How about an individual round trip in the coming year?
During our round trip through Slovakia, we experienced the country in all its diversity. We were impressed by the hospitality of the locals, the infrastructure proved to be excellent and nature literally took our breath away. Almost every day we breathed in the untouched mountain air, enjoyed spectacular views and immersed ourselves in the fascinating nature.

Estonia, Latvia & Lithuania
The Estonian landscape is characterized by unspoiled forests, numerous lakes and a breathtaking coastline. Lahemaa National Park is a paradise for nature lovers. The coast of Latvia is characterized by fine sandy beaches and picturesque dunes.
The Gauja National Park offers impressive gorges and the opportunity to discover the diverse flora and fauna. The Curonian Spit, which is shared by Lithuania and Russia, is a unique natural phenomenon with high shifting dunes and picturesque fishing villages.

8. Spain – Basque Country
Whenever we fly to Portugal, we fly over the Basque Country in Spain. Every time I think to myself: Wow! We have to go there! The region offers a varied landscape with picturesque beaches, green hills, mountains and charming coastal towns. The Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve and the Picos de Europa National Park are just two examples of the great diversity of the region.
The diverse landscape of the Basque Country offers numerous opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, water sports, cycling and bird watching. Historic cities such as Bilbao, San Sebastián and Vitoria-Gasteiz are rich in impressive architecture, from old churches to modern structures. For us, this clearly cries out for a new adventure!

Our Top Travel Destinations 2026 – Worldwide
For many, it can also go a little further away, which is why we have also noted a few great long-distance destinations for 2026. Some are high on our list, others we have already traveled to ourselves. And the list in our heads is still endlessly long and feels like it's getting longer and longer.
Next year, we don't have a long-distance trip on our program for the time being, but that can change quickly. We don't plan all year round, we always keep free space to be spontaneous. So let's just see what the travel year 2026 has in store for us.

1. Oman
Oman has been on my list for many years and Marco can tell you a thing or two about how often I was in his ears with it. Somehow, however, the timing had never really fit. The year before last, the time had finally come and we were able to start the long-awaited journey.
We traveled across Oman for 17 days and got to know and love the many different facets of the country. Our round trip is by far one of the most beautiful trips we have ever undertaken.
Oman surprised us with its golden shimmering sand dunes, imposing mountain peaks and a coastline that lovingly nestles against the deep blue waters of the Arabian Sea.
In hardly any other country have we seen so many different landscapes in such a short time and in such a small space. While we were trudging through the desert one moment, the next moment we were driving through narrow rocky gorges and lush oasis towns.

2. Botswana
If you've been following us for a while, then you probably know that we have an incredible passion for animals, wilderness and Africa. In 2022 and 2025, we were on the road in Botswana for a longer period of time and experienced unforgettable moments there.
The country is known for its stunning landscapes and abundant wildlife. So if you want to experience lions, giraffes, buffaloes, rhinos and co. up close in the wild, you should travel to Botswana in 2026.
Armed with a four-wheel drive car and a roof tent, we drove across the country. At the end of this trip, we had over 4,500 kilometers on our speedometer. Madness!
We have been to the Chobe National Park, the Okavango Delta, the huge salt pans of the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park as well as the Khama Rhino Sanctuary and the popular Elephant Sands Lodge. The next trip will definitely come!

3. Bolivia
So far, Marco and I have never been to South America. Why not? Honestly, I don't have an answer. When we decided to go on a long-distance trip, we usually went to the Middle East or Africa. America is generally not yet so high in our ranks. It's a pity, because we both have an incredible desire to explore Chile, Peru, Bolivia and all the other countries.
Bolivia in particular is buzzing around in my head. The country stretches from the Andes to the highlands of Altiplano to the tropical lowlands of the Amazon rainforest. Not to forget, of course, the "Salar de Uyuni", which is the largest salt lake in the world, or the city of the highest capital in the world, La Paz.

4. South Africa
We have published so many posts about no other country here on our blog. South Africa is a very popular tourist destination, and for good reason: the diversity of the country is hard to put into words. From endless beaches to vast savannahs to impressive mountains, South Africa offers an enormous variety of different landscapes.
Also, the country is famous for its stunning wildlife. National parks such as the Kruger National Park offer the opportunity to experience the "Big Five" (lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhino) as well as many other animals in their natural environment. We have traveled through almost every region of the country and love every single one. ☞ Our big South Africa travel blog.

5. Moorea
For a few months now, I have had a very special travel destination on my list, which is more of a "once-in-a-lifetime adventure". If I had to draw paradise, it would look like Moorea. Moorea is a paradisiacal island in the South Pacific Ocean and politically belongs to French Polynesia. The island is only about 17 kilometers northwest of Tahiti and can therefore be reached quite easily by ferry.
Moorea is known for its stunning and diverse landscape. High mountain peaks, lush valleys, crystal-clear lagoons and stunning beaches create a backdrop that seems like something out of a dream. ☞ Feel free to watch this documentary: "Borderless – Discover the World" in Tahiti and Moorea.

6. Mongolia
Mongolia is undoubtedly one of our top destinations for 2026. This fascinating country impresses not only with its breathtaking landscapes, but also with a rich culture and the unique way of life of the nomads.
Experience endless steppes, majestic mountain ranges, impressive deserts, and picturesque lakes that reflect the diversity of Mongolian nature. Visit traditional yurts that serve as mobile dwellings for the nomads and gain an authentic insight into their centuries-old way of life.
Mongolia is also home to unique wildlife, including wild horses, wild donkeys, yaks, wolves, and snow leopards. Nature reserves such as Gobi-Gurvan Saikhan National Park offer the opportunity to see these animals in their natural environment.
Mongolia is also ideal for adventurous activities such as trekking, horseback riding, stargazing in the Gobi Desert and motorcycle tours through the steppes. Sounds like a great adventure, right? The country is definitely at the top of our imaginary list.
☞ Take a look at Kathi & Hermann. You have traveled to Mongolia.

7. Big in Japan
Japan is also one of those very special destinations that have been on our list for ages. But we always said to ourselves: If Japan is going to happen, then with enough time. Since we have always been so busy professionally in recent years, we moved this destination further back again.
This year (2026) there will probably be nothing with Japan, but by 2027 at the latest, Japan offers an impressive natural diversity, from majestic mountains like Mount Fuji-san to picturesque coastlines. The four seasons are intensely experienced in Japan, such as the famous cherry blossom in spring.
Japan is famous for its impressive traditional architecture, including Kyoto's historic wooden buildings, ancient castles like Himeji's, and well-preserved shrines. On the other hand, cities like Tokyo and Osaka impress with their futuristic architecture, cutting-edge technology, lively nightlife, and shopping.
The courtesy and respect that are deeply rooted in Japanese culture make the travel experience extra enjoyable. The hospitality of the people in Japan is said to be really terrific!

8. British Columbia
British Columbia in Canada is made for road trips where not every hour is planned. The region offers lakes, mountains, dense forests and numerous national parks. Many routes lead directly through natural areas, with good opportunities for hiking, kayaking and wildlife viewing.
Longer routes with several stops, for example along the coast or through the Rocky Mountains, are particularly popular. British Columbia is suitable for those who want to be outdoors a lot and don't want to limit travel to individual places. That's exactly why the region is high on our wish list.

9. Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia has been increasingly opening up to tourism for several years. The country offers large desert landscapes, historical sites such as AlUla, and a long coastline on the Red Sea. Many regions are still poorly developed for tourism.
Here you will find nature, vastness and cultural sights that are not yet so well known. Saudi Arabia is suitable for anyone who is curious and looking for a destination that is still under construction. For me (Bolle) that would definitely be a highlight!

10. Kyrgyzstan
Kyrgyzstan is strongly characterized by high mountains and offers a lot of unspoilt nature. Lakes, wide valleys and mountain landscapes clearly determine the picture here. Tourism has only played a minor role so far, and many regions are still little visited.
Typical activities are mainly hiking, trekking and overnight stays in yurts. This country is particularly suitable for those who accept simple conditions and focus on nature and exercise. If you are looking for luxury, you should choose another destination.

11. La Reunion
Most people travel next door to Mauritius, but La Réunion has so much more to offer than a classic beach holiday. The French island in the Indian Ocean and significantly different from classic island destinations. Large parts of the island consist of mountains, cirques and volcanic landscape. With the Piton de la Fournaise, one of the most active volcanoes in the world is located here, which can be reached via well-developed hiking trails.
A large part of the island is under nature conservation. There are hundreds of kilometers of marked hiking trails through cirques, along waterfalls and through tropical vegetation. Beach holidays play only a subordinate role, instead La Réunion is mainly interesting for hikers, outdoor fans and all those who want to experience nature actively.

12. Greenland
Greenland is the largest island in the world and is extremely sparsely populated. There are no continuous roads between the towns, people travel by boat, plane or on foot. That's exactly what makes Greenland so special and adventurous.
Typical are stays of several days in individual regions, such as on the west coast. Boat tours through fjords, hikes, icebergs and glaciers determine everyday travel. Greenland is not a destination for classic sightseeing, but for all those who focus on landscape, peace and space.

13. Colombia
Colombia is one of the most diverse countries in South America. The Caribbean coast, the Andes, the coffee zone and the rainforest are relatively close to each other and can be combined well. This makes the country particularly suitable for round trips with several stops.
In addition to nature, Colombia offers vibrant cities with a strong cultural life. Regions such as the Coffee Zone are much quieter and offer hiking, smaller towns and rural accommodation. Colombia is easy to travel to and allows you to combine city, nature and relaxation in one trip.
